Referrals to music therapy can be made by anyone, including parents, guardians, teachers, healthcare providers, social workers, or clients themselves. For further details on referrals or to discuss specific needs, feel free to contact us using the form on the contact page
-
No, musical experience is not necessary. Music therapy is accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level, and is focused on using music as a therapeutic tool, rather than on musical performance.
-
Family involvement can be beneficial, and we welcome it when appropriate. For younger clients, we encourage family members or caregivers to join sessions to provide support and help the child feel comfortable. For older clients, we generally recommend they attend independently to foster a therapeutic relationship with the therapist and promote personal growth. A waiting area is available nearby for parents or guardians. All behaviours expressed during sessions are viewed as meaningful forms of communication and are fully accepted within our supportive environment.
-
For most clients, sessions are 50 minutes long, with an additional 5 minutes reserved for therapist documentation and planning. For younger clients, we offer 30-minute sessions to ensure the experience remains engaging and developmentally appropriate. If sessions are held in home or community settings, mileage charges may apply for travel.
-
Sessions are tailored to the client’s needs and can include activities such as singing, instrument play, improvisation, lyric analysis, and focused music listening. Each session is designed to allow clients to engage at their own pace. Visit our Service Options page for more information on what to expect in a session.

Your therapist will regularly check in with you about your child’s progress, addressing any questions and ensuring that sessions are meeting their goals and needs. This may include brief conversations before or after sessions or scheduled check-ins to review and adjust the therapeutic approach as needed. Open communication is encouraged, and you’re welcome to share any thoughts or concerns at any time to help support your child’s therapeutic journey.

Yes, your therapist can provide written reports as needed, summarising progress, therapeutic goals, and observations from sessions. Reports can be valuable for sharing insights with other professionals involved in your care, such as teachers, healthcare providers, or support staff. If you require a report for a specific purpose, please discuss this with your therapist. Please note that additional charges may apply for report writing services.
